About the UUID Generator
The UUID generator creates random version 4 universally unique identifiers with the browser's cryptographic random source. Generate one identifier or a small batch and copy the results without a server request.
How to use this tool
Choose the number of UUIDs and select Generate UUIDs. Each result uses the familiar 8-4-4-4-12 hexadecimal layout. Copy the complete list when seeding development data, assigning client-generated object IDs, or creating correlation values. Generate fresh identifiers rather than editing characters in an existing UUID, because the version and variant bits have defined positions.
How to read the result
A version 4 UUID contains 122 random bits plus fixed version and variant bits. The third group begins with 4, and the first character of the fourth group reflects the standard variant. UUIDs are designed to make accidental collisions extraordinarily unlikely without a central sequence service. They are identifiers, not compact numbers, timestamps, or evidence that an object is authentic.
Limits and privacy
UUID uniqueness is probabilistic rather than a mathematical guarantee, though collisions are negligible for ordinary use with a secure random generator. UUIDs are often guess-resistant but should not be treated as passwords, authorization tokens, or proof of access. This tool creates v4 values only; it does not generate time-ordered UUID versions. Generation and copying occur locally in the browser.
Common questions
- Are UUID v4 values guaranteed to be unique?
- No random identifier has an absolute guarantee, but the available random space makes collisions extraordinarily unlikely in normal systems.
- Can I use a UUID as a secret token?
- It is better to use a purpose-built token with an explicit security design, sufficient entropy, expiration, and server-side validation.
